Joy Meijer
By simply watching a television program about photography, I finally decided to start a photography course. Although it was perhaps a bit of an impulsive choice at the time, I did discover that this was the best choice I could make. I am at my place here and I also hear this from others.
Then why photograph dogs? Because dogs are my therapy, just like photography. With dogs I can be myself. They are always honest, listen when you need it and give you a lick on your cheek when things go wrong. So why not combine my 2 therapies into one fantastic profession?
"For me, dogs are not just pets. They are family, friends, comrades and our children.
Joy Meijer
Born and raised in the beautiful city of 's-Hertogenbosch in 1999. In my eyes I have the sweetest family that anyone could wish for (and I am not even exaggerating). I may also feel blessed with the love of my life: Thom.
I am a genuine fan of eating a lot and unhealthy food. It regularly happens to me that I am exhausted on the couch because of my own eating party. I often do this while enjoying a Netflix series (of which I follow dozens.)
I also like to listen to all kinds of music, but I prefer rock and metal. I am a book devourer and last but not least, I love to draw.

Get to know my dog
There is of course a reason for my knowledge and love of dogs. Balto was my first dog and also my first big love. He did not like to be photographed so unfortunately I could not capture him very much. The few photos that we were able to take, are created with a lot of rest and many breaks. But they sure are full of love. From us as owners, but also from Balto. Unfortunately we have to miss him now, but I hope to make today's owners very happy with taking pictures of their children. Because that's what he was to me. My child, my psychologist, my best friend and my greatest love. I have documented his farewell on photographs. Are you curious about this? Then quickly look at the page of farewell documentary.

The story behind the picture
There is really no human or animal who, in my eyes, loved the sun more than this boy. In my room a small ray of sun often slid through my window in the afternoon. As soon as my room door was open, Balto took his chance. If we had lost him we could go and look in my room as standard. There he lay, royally, enjoying a ray of sunshine. Even though it was 35 degrees outside. He did not know the words 'cooling down'. He had to lie in the sun.
So Joy, what do you always do when it is the middle of summer and it's hot outside? Well dear people, of course I love natural water ice creams. They are incredibly tasty and refreshing at such a moment. As you can see, I was not the only one with this opinion. Although I have a lot of discipline and really could say no, I couldn't resist these whining eyes. My little friend also feels hot! Then just 'sacrifice' yourself and hand over your ice cream. But of course that's 100% worth it!
I can probably speak for many dog owners when I say that there is nothing better than sitting on the couch with your dog. During the time that he could still jump on the couch independently, we spent most evenings like this. It felt so familiar and pleasant. He always seemed to be watching TV and when I looked at his eyes, they would soon have fallen into a deep sleep.
This is one of the last photos I made of Balto. He was in my room again as usual because he saw a ray of sunshine. He also used my couch sometimes as a scratching post (yes, he had a lot of cat traits). So in the context of '' take as many photos as possible '' I just quickly took this picture. Only on the photo did I see that 2 rays of light crossed his nose. As if they were already waiting for him above.
